BESS Engineer (F/M)
Considering that every project must be meaningful, including for its internal teams, Amarenco is constantly working to optimize well-being within the company.
Mission
As a battery and BESS Engineer, you are the expert in the design of battery energy storage systems, whether they are standalone or hybrid projects (PV + BESS).
You collaborate with the company's development, construction, and asset management teams, as well as with external stakeholders, including suppliers, EPCs, technical advisors, etc., by communicating essential technical information in these areas of expertise.
Your responsibilities include the creation of technical documents applicable to batteries and storage systems, as well as their continuous review and improvement to ensure the alignment of the company's battery and BESS technical standards with industry standards and the renewable energy market.
You are also promoting continuous improvement of engineering practices within your area of expertise and assess new technologies and designs to optimize performance, costs, and, more broadly, the LCOE of projects.
- Undertake to know and respect the safety rules in force in the workplace.
- Qualify subcontractors (battery suppliers and their pack, rack, and container integrators, BESS suppliers or integrators, EMS and/or PMS solution providers, etc.) in collaboration with the Procurement department.
- Establish processes, protocols, guidelines, etc., for storage solutions in line with industry and market standards and practices.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders within the company to understand project requirements and translate them into battery and BESS specification features.
- Be the reference for technological choices, sizing, and integration of storage solutions, and if needed, support these choices through numerical modelling and software simulations.
- Establish or oversee the creation of general and detailed technical specifications for storage solutions.
- Collaborate with other internal stakeholders within the company to integrate additional specification elements:
- SCADA Engineering: interface specifications of BESS control systems (EMS/PMS/BMS/etc.) with the other IT/communication systems of the projects.
- Electrical Engineering: integration specifications of BESS with the electrical substations ensuring their connections to the power grids.
- Electrical Engineering: integration specifications of BESS with PV plants (hybrid plants).
- Asset Management Department: interface specifications for operation and reporting (alarms, performance, efficiency, etc.) both at local (site) and remote (central control room) level.
- Establish or oversee the creation of construction contracts for storage solutions (general and specific technical specifications, limits of supply, scope of work, lists of contractual documents, etc.).
- Participate in the selection processes of BESS solutions (writing technical documents, analysing offers, identifying deviations, requesting clarifications, preparing technical response files and associated CAPEX, etc.).
- Supervise the technical studies of BESS solutions carried out by EPCs and follow the development and integration of main packages (battery containers, EMS/PMS, etc.) with integrators and subcontractors.
- Recommend improvements to increase the availability, performance, reliability, and lifespan of storage solutions.
- Participate in the technical due diligence of BESS projects during acquisition phases.
- Participate in the commissioning of strategic projects.
- Provide feedback to internal stakeholders (Executive Management, Operation & Maintenance, Engineering, Development and Construction Project Managers).
- Contribute to the development of a culture around batteries and BESS across the company.
- Train internal teams on technical subjects related to batteries and BESS.
- Facilitate the induction of technical knowledge and best practices among teams.
- Ensure a technology and economy watch of supervision systems, control systems (automation), data analysis software (big data, data mining), and IT solutions.
Profil
